Imagine Learning English

Every Dual Language Classroom has several computers with Imagine Learning installed. Every English Language Learner has a license, and should be using it a minimum of 4 days a week, for 20-30 minutes each day. The software is self-directed, and includes instruction in the following areas: Listening & Speaking Skills, Vocabulary Development, and Literacy (phonemic awareness, fluency, comprehension, etc.) Home Language Support is available in several languages and can be turned on/off for individual students. Teachers can review individual and class level reports to target student needs and differentiate instruction. Imagine Learning is usually updated twice each year, once in the Fall and again in the early Spring. These updates include new activities, support languages, and report features. To see what's new or coming up in the next version, check out the Imagine Learning website.
FAQs for Imagine Learning at 197:
Q: Imagine Learning doesn't seem to be working. What do I do?
A: Check the color of the dot in the upper right hand corner of the desktop. If it's red, chances are the server is turned off or disconnected. Please call Mr. Metz or Mr. Herrera. If it's yellow, wait 10-15 minutes and see if it turns green, as this is usually a sign that the software is updating. If it does not turn green and the issue continues, please let Mr. Metz know. If the dot is green, Imagine Learning should be working.
Q: Students are able to log-in, but all they see is a black screen. What can I do?
A: Restart the computer. Log out using the F4 key and a teacher password. Then click the apple icon and select "restart". Log back into the computer when it turns back on, wait for the dot to turn green, and have the student log-in to Imagine Learning. This corrects the black screen issue 90% of the time.
Q: How can I start all the student sessions at the same time, so that they rotate automatically?
A: Log-in to Imagine Manager, click Students, then choose your CLASS NAME. This should put a checkmark next to each student name in your class. Click START (or GO) and Imagine Learning will load student sessions on all computers with Imagine Learning in your classroom.
Q: Nobody is touching the computer, but student sessions for another class are opening. Why?
A: Occasionally computers are moved between classrooms after Imagine Learning was initially installed. If this is happening, please let Mr. Metz know. He will investigate the issue and re-assign the computer to your classroom within the Imagine Learning software. The same is also true if you have a computer in your classroom with Imagine Learning installed, but a student session is not loading when you follow the procedures in the question above. Let Mr. Metz know.
Q: Why aren't any worksheets or stories printing?
A: Due to limited toner supplies, all student printing from Imagine Learning has been turned off. Teachers can still print reports using Imagine Manager.
Q: Where can I find a story/song/worksheet from Imagine Learning to use with a small group?
A: All resources are available from the green dot. Click the green dot in the top right of the screen to view resources for Level 1 (Imagine Island) or Level 2 (Imagine Museum) Resource Guides.
