K-3 Dual Language Goals

For the 2011-2012 school year, we have revised our goals.  These goals are focused on Spanish Language Development.



Kindergarten

Winter

  1. Students will recognize 70% of the Spanish alphabet.

  2. 75% of the students will recognize 75% of the primary colors.
  3. 75% of the students will identify numbers 0-10.
  4. 75% of the students will recognize the basic shapes.
  5. 70% of the students will be able to understand daily greetings and school-related commands.
  6. 75% of the students will match 6 out of 10 Spanish letters to their initial sounds.
  7. 80% of the students will name their family members.
  8. 75% of the students will use weather related words.
  9. 75% of the students will identify classroom objects.
  10. 85% of the students will identify parts of the body.
  11. 75% of the students will name the days of the week and the months of the year.

Spring

  1. 90% of the students will recognize 100% of the Spanish alphabet.
  2. 95% of the students will recognize the primary colors.

  3. 95% of the students will identify numbers 0-20.
  4. 95% of the students will identify the basic shapes.
  5. 90% of the students will be able to understand daily greetings and school-related commands.
  6. 90% of the students will match 9 out of 10 Spanish letters to their initial sounds.
  7. 90% of the students will name their family members.
  8. 90% of the students will use weather related words.
  9. 90% of the students will identify classroom objects.
  10. 95% of the students will identify parts of the body.
  11. 90% of the students will name the days of the week and the months of the year.



First Grade

Winter

  1. 75% of the students will be able to identify initial and ending sounds.
  2. 75% of the students will be able to identify 20 high frequency words.
  3. 75% of the students will be able to use invented spelling to write simple sentences.
  4. 75% of the students will be able to orally express likes and dislikes. (For example: food, weather, color)
  5. 75% of the students will be able to count by 1's and 5's from 1 to 50.
  6. 75% of the students will compare numbers using appropriate vocabulary (more than, less than, equal).
  7. 75% of the students will tell time to the nearest hour.

Spring

  1. 90% of students will be able to identify initial, medial, and ending sounds.
  2. 90% of students will be able to identify 35 high frequency words.
  3. 85% of the students will be able to use invented spelling to write a short paragraph.
  4. 85% of the students will be able to use invented spelling to write a short paragraph.
  5. 90% of the students will be able to count by 1's, 5's, and 10's from 1 to 100.
  6. 90% of the students will identify even and odd numbers.
  7. 90% of the students will be able to tell time to the nearest half hour.



Second Grade

Winter

  1. 75% of students will identify 5 synonyms and 5 antonyms.
  2. 75% of students will write simple sentences.

  3. 75% of students will be able to identify 10 verbs in the present tense.
  4. 75% of students will identify 10 math vocabulary words.  (For example: mas, menos, igual, formas, poligono)
  5. 75% of students will tell time to the nearest quarter hour.
  6. 75% of students will predict the weather using appropriate vocabulary.
  7. 75% of students will be able to read and write 50 vocabulary words.
  8. 75% of the students will identify the following words and use them in a simple sentence - happy, sad, angry, excited.

Spring

  1. 90% of students will identify 10 synonyms and 10 antonyms.
  2. 85% of students will write simple sentences using adjectives/descriptive words.
  3. 95% of students will identify 20 verbs in both the present and past tenses.
  4. 95% of students will identify 20 math vocabulary words.

  5. 95% of students will tell time to the nearest quarter hour.
  6. 95% of students will predict the weather using appropriate vocabulary.
  7. 95% of students will be able to read and write 100 vocabulary words using simple sentences.
  8. 95% of students will identify words that express emotion and use them in a simple sentence.



Third Grade

Winter

  1. Students will be able to use their second language to complete a cloze passage using the given vocabulary with 80% accuracy.
  2. Students will be able to read and retell a leveled story with 80% accuracy.
  3. Students will be able to answer 8 out of 10 given questions, related to a story.

Spring

  1. Students will be able to write a three-sentence summary after listening to a story read aloud.

  2. Students will be able to write a five-sentence paragraph about a story they read.
  3. Students will be able to discuss a story with a peer or group with 80% accuracy.
